Private Audiology Done Properly
BestHear is a private audiology practice for adults and children across South Wales, with clinics in Swansea and Pontyclun. Diagnostic hearing assessments, microsuction earwax removal, hearing aid fittings using the Heareka methodology, paediatric audiology, and tinnitus consultations — every appointment delivered by clinicians dual-registered with HCPC and AHCS, working to NHS standards in unhurried clinic time.
The hearing test that takes ten minutes at a high-street counter is the same hearing test that takes an hour here. The difference is what gets done with it.

Adult Services
Adult Hearing Test & Report — £150
A full diagnostic assessment, not a screening. Otoscopic examination, pure-tone audiometry across the speech-frequency range and beyond, speech-in-noise testing where indicated, tympanometry, and a written report you can take to your GP. Results explained in plain language so you understand what the audiogram actually means for your daily life. Read more or book directly.
Adult Earwax Removal (Microsuction) — £60
Endoscopic microsuction performed under direct visualisation — every step shown on screen so you can see exactly what is being removed. No water, no syringing, no oil-softening required for most cases. Single-session resolution for the majority of presentations. Read more or book directly.
Adult Hearing Aids (Heareka Methodology) — Demo Complimentary
The Heareka method is what BestHear is built around. Real Ear Measurement to verify the prescription up to the eardrum, then a structured subjective tuning protocol that maps the patient’s experience up to the auditory cortex. Less is more — most options set to automatic so the wearer puts them on in the morning and forgets about them. The success metric is simple: the wearer forgets they are wearing them, and the people around them are not reminded they need help with their hearing. Read more or book a Heareka demo.
Tinnitus Consultation — £150
Tinnitus is a symptom, not a diagnosis. The first job is to characterise it — pitch, mechanism, contributing factors — and then build a management plan around what is actually driving it. Sound therapy, hearing aid integration, lifestyle audit, and onward referral where indicated. Read more.
Same-Day Adult Appointments — Where Capacity Allows
A small daily reserve is held for urgent presentations: sudden blockage, post-syringing fullness, sudden hearing change, severe tinnitus onset. Phone triage decides whether same-day BestHear is the right route, or whether NHS 111 should be the first call. Read more.
Children’s Services
BestHear’s lead clinician trained extensively in paediatric audiology in tertiary NHS settings and continues to take on referrals where general adult clinics will not. Children are not small adults — the testing protocols, the language used, the parent involvement, and the clinical thresholds all differ. Mr Ali has close to two decades of clinical experience across the NHS and internationally, with extensive paediatric audiology training and ongoing scope of practice.
Children’s Hearing Test & Report — £150
Age-appropriate testing from infancy through adolescence: visual reinforcement audiometry, play audiometry, conditioned-response testing, and full diagnostic audiometry for older children. Tympanometry included as standard. Written report suitable for school, ENT referral, or onward NHS routing. Read more or book directly.
Children’s Earwax Removal (Endoscopic Microsuction) — £120
From age three and above using endoscopic microsuction technique. Many practices will not see paediatric earwax cases at all; BestHear takes them with proper time per appointment, age-appropriate explanation, and a parent in the room. Read more or book directly.
Children’s Hearing Aid Fittings — Heareka Paediatric Demo
The Heareka methodology adapted for paediatric fittings — Real Ear Measurement at the child’s ear, structured subjective tuning with parental observation, and ongoing review tied to school feedback. Read more or book a paediatric Heareka demo.

“Where do I start? With my excellent appointment with Armaj at BestHear – or with the difference his treatment has made to my life? Television without subtitles, conversations in restaurants without straining, my wife not having to repeat herself. The Heareka approach is the most thorough I’ve ever experienced, and I have worn hearing aids for years.”
— Ioan Hefin, Welsh actor & storyteller
Why BestHear Is Different
Most hearing care providers do the same things. The difference is how they are done.
Methodology, not a brand-led button preset. Hearing aids fitted at BestHear are tuned using the Heareka methodology — Real Ear Measurement to verify the prescription objectively, then a structured subjective tuning protocol to align the device with the patient’s actual experience. The fitting is finished when the patient says it is, not when the software graph looks tidy.
Time, not turnover. A diagnostic appointment runs an hour. A fitting runs an hour. Earwax removal takes as long as it takes. Nothing is processed; everything is consulted.
Dual registration. BestHear’s lead clinician is registered with both the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Clinical Scientist and the Academy for Healthcare Science (AHCS) as a Hearing Aid Dispenser. Most private dispensers hold one registration; NHS-pathway clinical scientists rarely move into private practice. The combination is uncommon and meaningful.
The success definition is the patient’s, not the audiogram’s. A hearing aid fitting is only successful when the wearer forgets they are wearing it, and the people around them are not reminded the wearer needs help with their hearing. Audiogram-matched gain on paper is necessary but not sufficient. Less is more — most options set to automatic, the device makes its own decisions in the background, and the wearer puts them on in the morning and gets on with their day.
