Ear Wax Removal BestHear Swansea

Earwax Removal in Swansea — Endoscopic Microsuction

Most patients arrive with blocked ears having already tried olive oil for two weeks, cotton buds (against their better judgment), and a GP visit that ended with “we don’t do that anymore.”

That is the gap BestHear fills — safe, same-day earwax removal by endoscopic microsuction, performed by an HCPC-registered clinician.

“After having issues for months, going back and forth to the Doctor’s and never getting any answers, this was the best thing I could have done for my ears.”

What Endoscopic Microsuction Is

Microsuction is the safe modern alternative to ear syringing. Wax is gently lifted out of the ear canal using a low-pressure suction instrument under direct vision. No water. No flushing. No pressure waves into the eardrum.

“Endoscopic” means the clinician uses a small camera so the inside of your ear is shown clearly on a screen — both clinician and patient can see exactly what is being removed and what the canal looks like before, during, and after.

Why It Is Better Than Syringing

Ear syringing — the older NHS method using pressurised water — is now discouraged in many areas because of the risks: eardrum perforation, infection, vertigo, and incomplete removal of hard wax.

Microsuction is recommended by current ENT and audiology guidance as the safer, more effective approach. It works equally well on soft and impacted wax, and it can be performed even when olive oil has not had time to soften the wax fully.

Who Carries Out the Procedure

Microsuction at BestHear is performed by Armaj Ali, registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Clinical Scientist in Audiology and with the Academy for Healthcare Science (AHCS). The procedure is carried out using current best-practice protocols and equipment maintained to clinical standard.

Common Reasons Patients Book Microsuction

  • Sudden muffled hearing in one or both ears
  • A blocked, full, or pressurised feeling that won’t lift
  • Tinnitus or whistling sounds linked to wax build-up
  • Hearing aids that have stopped sounding right because the canal is occluded
  • Olive oil tried for two weeks, no improvement
  • GP referral declined (“we don’t do that anymore”)
  • Pre-flight or pre-dive ear check

“A year ago I needed an urgent Earwax Removal appointment for my 95-year-old Mum. Mr Armaj Ali fitted my Mum in that same day and since then she hasn’t looked back. With her current hearing aid not coming up to scratch, she returned to BestHear and is now the proud owner of Heareka Hearing Aids, which have transformed her hearing. Armaj was very patient and clear when explaining their use, and over the following month made sure Mum was happy and confident using them. He was always at the end of the phone if we needed advice, so aftercare support is excellent. We are all looking forward to Christmas this year with our Mum, who will now be able to join in our conversations.”

How to Book

  1. Book online or call 01792 940032
  2. Attend a 30-minute appointment at BestHear, Swansea
  3. Walk out with clear ears — usually within the first session, with aftercare advice tailored to your situation

Same-day appointments are often available. Both ears are checked and treated as needed in the same appointment.

Why Acting Sooner Helps

Wax that is left long enough to harden becomes more difficult to remove and can press on the eardrum, causing discomfort, tinnitus, and a sensation of fullness that does not lift on its own. Repeated cotton bud use can push wax deeper and risks injuring the canal. Trying to manage build-up at home with sharp objects or excessive olive oil tends to make things worse rather than better.

The faster route to clear ears is the right tools in the right hands — once.

What You Walk Away With

  • Clear ears, in most cases within a single 30-minute appointment
  • Confirmation that your ear canal and eardrum look healthy
  • Aftercare advice specific to whether you are prone to recurrent wax
  • An optional free hearing screening, if you would like one at the end

“I attended the clinic today with my ten-year-old daughter and saw Mr Ali. I cannot thank him enough — his understanding and patience with my daughter was amazing. He answered all my questions and concerns, and put her at ease when removing a foreign body from her ear. He explained everything in detail and put me at ease. I would recommend anyone with concerns about their children’s hearing to him.”

Frequently Asked Questions

No. Most patients describe it as a slightly noisy but painless experience. The suction itself is gentle. Anything that feels sharp is the wax breaking loose, not the instrument.
Helpful, not essential. Two or three days of olive oil can soften hard wax and shorten the appointment, but microsuction works on dry and impacted wax too. If your ears are uncomfortable already, do not delay booking just to oil first.
Yes. The 30-minute appointment covers both ears as needed.
Yes. BestHear offers paediatric microsuction for children aged 3 and above. The approach is age-appropriate and the appointment is set up to keep things calm. See paediatric audiology for the wider service.
Often, but not always. If you have a cancellation slot in mind, call 01792 940032 to check current availability. See also same-day appointments.
The complimentary hearing screening at the end of the wax appointment will flag this. If anything looks worth investigating, the next step is a full private hearing test — but there is no obligation to book one.
